Day 2

We got to the west side of Arkansas today.  Here are some photos.

Dan insisted we should pick up this hitch hiker

We tried to drive thru Beale Street in Memphis.

We crossed the Mississippi

Dan had an insight

And an opinion

Tennessee was hilly, but Arkansas was immediately flat.  There was lots of standing water and trees that looked like mangroves.

South Eastern Arkansas was weirdly flat, and seemed to have fields that looked like rice paddies ready for flooding.

Knoxville to Nashville

We had some fog out of Knoxville this morning.  It was fun to tool up on to the high northern plateau of Tennessee.  We wished for a scenic pull-off, but did not find one.  You'll need to use your imagination.

Notice how the roads south of I 40 are linear following the mountain valleys, but north of I 40 on the plateau they are more broken up.

We called this a power plant.

Nashville

Coffee Break

It's 10a.m. Sunday morning, we're taking a coffee break at McDonald's near Nashville -- blogging, checking email, etc. Yesterday's drive was great. We made great time, had mild weather, beautiful scenery. We even avoided a traffic jam using waze. We stayed at a Microtel last night in Knoxville. It was cheap and we got what we paid for. It was bedbug free(ish), internet was too weak to blog, the shower spit on us. But neither of us really have any complaints. We just didn't linger this morning, and we won't return. We're thinking of exploring Memphis at lunch time, we'll cross the Mississippi this afternoon.
